| Motueka is on Tasman Bay just west of Cooke Strait. It is about 7 hours from Wellington by ferry and bus, or a 35 minute flight to Nelson by Air New Zealand, and a 30 minute bus trip. From Auckland Airport, Nelson is a 1 hour 20 minute flight. It is primarily a tourist area, within short distance of the Able Tasman, Kahurangi, and Nelson Lakes National Parks, and the Marlborough Sounds National Maritime Park and Queen Charlotte Track.
It is rated as the sunniest region of the country due to the shelter provided by the Arthur and Tasman Mountain Ranges. |
